Susan J. Eberhardt originally joined Knight, Hoppe, Kurnik and Knight in April 2018. After joining the firm, Susan worked on cases in various areas of insurance defense including premises liability, actions against motorists, employment discrimination, municipal liability and civil rights actions. Susan took a brief hiatus from the practice of insurance defense in 2022 and part of 2023 to prosecute crimes as an Assistant State’s Attorney with Kane County where she handled felony domestic violence and DUI cases. After returning to Knight, Hoppe, Kurnik & Knight in 2023, Susan primarily works in the areas of civil rights defense and employment law.

Jackson v. Macon County: Four separate complaint were filed in the Central District of Illinois on behalf of all four plaintiffs alleging that detectives from the Macon County Sheriff’s Office unreasonably detained, searched, and seized plaintiffs pursuant to a traffic stop in violation of the U.S. Constitution, federal law and state law. Summary judgment was granted in favor of the defendants on all seven counts of each of the four complaints. The Court ruled that probable cause existed for the defendants’ actions in detaining plaintiffs and searching their vehicle.
Anderson v. Macon County: Pro Se prisoner filed a complaint in the Central District of Illinois alleging that he was exposed to conditional of confinement that made him more susceptible to the risk of COVID-19. Summary judgment was granted in favor of the defendants as the plaintiff did not exhaust his administrative remedies prior to file suit in federal court.
