About Us

The pedigree of Knight, Hoppe, Kurnik & Knight, Ltd. as a public entity and commercial lines insurance defense firm dates back to the early ‘70’s when our firm was formed. From our inception, the firm was retained by commercial lines carriers and public entity insurers. We defend public entities of all sizes and levels of local government in civil rights litigation and tort damages suits. Construction negligence, products, and premises liability suits represent the bulk of our commercial claims. Our partners and associates handle the cases from the initial pleading through trial and the appellate courts because it is our philosophy that the same attorney should be able to prepare the case for both trial and any possible appeal to provide the best possible defense for our clients..  We remain committed to providing a vigorous but practical and economic defense for both of our clients, insurer and insured.

One boutique aspect of our practice is the defense of claims under the Native American Indians Act.  When a client sells merchandise that appears to be Native American Indian made, Native American Indian Tribes are entitled to damages under the Act.  We have successfully fended off these claims in several states throughout the country.  To our knowledge we are the only firm to have tried, and tried successfully, a suit under the Act.

Our practice is concentrated principally in northern Illinois and northern Indiana both in the state courts and the federal courts. With offices in Rosemont, minutes from O’Hare airport and in northwest Indiana in Schererville, our locations, with immediate access to the interstates, we conveniently serve our clients throughout Illinois and Indiana in all of the counties and federal courts systems and travel outside our regular venue when requested.
